The Leica 2800E Frigocut Cryostat Microtome is a motorized, microprocessor controlled cryostat with 2040 microtome. The 2040 microtome is a smooth running, stainless steel rotary microtome and designed to cut biological specimens into very thin segments for microscopic examination with thickness of 1.0 µm to 60 µm. Furthermore, the microtome incorporates automatic specimen retraction in the return stroke to protect both the knife and the specimen from possible damage.
The microprocessor controls the motor drives for the vertical and horizontal specimen movement, the temperature preselection for specimen and cryochamber and the automatic as well as manual evaporator defrosting.
The cryochamber has three deep freeze stations for the biological specimens.Â
Also, the cryocabinet is an open top model that has a cooling system with variable chamber temperature down to -40 °C. The specimen temperature can be variably controlled in a range from -10 °C to -40 °C independent of the cryochamber temperature.
